Paralysis |
| |
It is not often that turtles become
paralyzed. However, occasionally this will happen
and when it does it is important that you take
your turtle to a veternarian immediately to have
it looked at. Almost all the time it is irreversable
however it is still important that you have the
turtle looked at so that the condition does not
get worse and the root cause can be determined.
The longer you leave your turtle, the more longterm
damage will be caused to it.
Paralysis in turtles can occur for a variety
of reasons. The most common cause is a severe
injury either self-inflicted or inflicted by another
animal. Birth defects can also cause paralysis.
Sometimes chronic nutritional problems have been
known to cause paralysis in turtles. This usually
only happens after long periods of neglect in
regards to the turtles diet.
