Mouth Rot |
| |
Mouth rot occurs in turtles that
have a large amount of bacteria built up in their
mouth over a period of time. This generally will
cause a great deal of irritation on the lining
of the turtles' mouth, usually it will look red
and sore. A lack of proper nutrition is usually
the primary cause of mouth rot in turtles. If
they are eating food that is already infested
with bacteria it is also possible for that bacteria
to infect the turtles mouth as well as other parts
of its body.
In order to alleviate this condition it will be
necessary for a veterinarian to provide you with
some sort of antibiotic or other ointment to apply
to the turtles mouth. It will also help if you
clean the turtles mouth out on a daily basis while
it is healing.
