Internal Parasites |
| |
Water turtles are the most susceptible
types of turtle to internal parasites. Flukes,
roundworms and tapeworms are a few of the most
common parasites that affect turtles. Turtles
that are brought in from the wild and even turtles
that have been bought from a pet store should
be checked out for internal parasties. If there
are other turtles already living in the habitat
you intend to bring your new turtle into be sure
to have the turtle checked BEFORE it is brought
home so that no parasites are transferred to the
other turtles.
As usual veterinarian assitance will be needed
to confirm the diagnosis of internal parasites.
They will generally examine the turtles stool
with a microscope and potentially do blood tests
if they feel it is necessary. |
